First Annual Fundraiser Dinner a Success

September 1, 2015

Thank you all so much for your generous donation to The HELP Center.

As you know, a criminal conviction doesn't have to be the end of your career road - not by a long shot. If you've recently been released from jail or prison - or are likely to be released soon - transitional work programs can help you find work immediately, and apply for jobs with employers who won't discriminate against you based on your criminal record. Many offenders have difficulty finding permanent, unsubsidized, well-paid employment after release because they lack job-seeking experience, a work history, and occupational skills; furthermore, many employers refuse to hire individuals with criminal records. These circumstances seriously affect an ex-offender’s stability because unemployment is consistently associated with high recidivism rates.

The HELP Center’s goal is to help prison inmates get good paying jobs, continued education and support after they return to their homes. Our experience has shown that most inmates do not know how to go about this. Even in prison, inmates can do a number of things that will increase their future success. Once ex-offenders return to their communities they can do more. The HELP Center will specialize in resume writing, basic computer operation, computer software navigation, housing, driver’s license reinstatements, transportation, GED preparation along with in-house testing, just to name a few.

With the generous support of people like you, we will be able to help many of these families and individuals not only to meet essential daily needs, but to work toward a brighter future with programs in job training, education, counseling, elderly assistance, and temporary housing.

For more information on how your donation is helping to make a difference in the lives of so many in our community, we invite you to visit our website at www.theHELPcenterTN.org. You can also find information there on our upcoming events for this year and volunteer opportunities.

Thank you again, and we look forward to your continued support.
